Scottsdale is the main town in the Dorset Council area in north-east Tasmania, situated approximately 60 kilometres north-east of Launceston on the North Esk River. The town serves as the service centre for the surrounding agricultural and forestry district, which is one of Tasmania's most productive vegetable-growing regions - particularly for poppies, pyrethrum, and cool-climate produce. The Scottsdale Hospital is the local health facility, providing services for the broader north-east catchment including Bridport (15km north), Derby, and the communities of the Blue Tier and Break O'Day areas. The region is also gaining recognition for mountain biking tourism through the Blue Derby trail network, which has brought new hospitality and retail activity to the area.
