Queenstown is the main town on Tasmania's remote west coast, situated approximately 255 kilometres north-west of Hobart in a dramatic landscape shaped by a century of copper mining. The Mount Lyell copper mine has been the economic anchor of the town since the 1880s, with the bare, multicoloured hills surrounding Queenstown now serving as a distinctive tourist attraction.
