Deloraine is a heritage town in the Meander Valley, situated approximately 50 kilometres west of Launceston on the Meander River at the foot of the Great Western Tiers. The town is well known for its arts community, the biennial Tasmania Craft Fair (one of the largest in the Southern Hemisphere), and its well-preserved colonial streetscape. Deloraine serves as the main service centre for the Meander Valley Council area, with a catchment extending north to Westbury, south toward Mole Creek and the Walls of Jerusalem National Park, and west toward Sheffield. The town has a strong agricultural base in dairying, vegetable growing, and poppies. Health services are drawn primarily from Launceston General Hospital, with Deloraine providing local pharmacy and medical needs for the valley communities.
