Collie is WA's only significant coal-mining town, situated approximately 200 kilometres south of Perth in the South West region. The town's economy has historically been centred on coal extraction and power generation, with the state's main coal-fired power stations located nearby. Collie Health Campus is the main health facility. The town is in a period of transition as the state moves away from coal, with government investment in diversification and tourism targeting Wellington Dam and the surrounding forests. The community is a stable working-class demographic with strong trades employment and a catchment extending to Boyup Brook and Bridgetown to the south.
