Frequently Asked Questions
How can I start designing my new dream home?
It might sound obvious, but the desire for a new design often kicks off when you realise you're looking to improve your living environment for yourself and your family. Whether you've just bought a block of land or you're already living on it in an existing house, that's a big step forward. You've probably started imagining about how you can improve your living situation, either by knocking down the existing place and starting fresh, or by keeping a part of the house and going for an extension or an internal renovation. At Design Yard 32, we're happy to help you make this choice by exploring the opportunities together.
To get the ball rolling, we need to analyse many aspects of your unique block and existing house. We can also help you outline and finalise your goals and aspirations in the form of a design brief. When you're ready to engage, we'll take you through the journey, helping you organise the required site survey to start with. Then, the design stage begins, where our principal designer will guide you through the best layout options, all based on your design brief.
What Is a Design Brief?
Embarking on the journey to design your dream home begins with a clear understanding of your lifestyle needs, preferences, and future aspirations. To ensure everything aligns with your expectations and your budget, designers need to refer to a written summary of these requirements. At Design Yard 32, we collect your ideas and goals via a form, which helps you summarise your design brief and ensures your goals and wishes are aligned with family members who will be involved in the design process. Expect us to support you when required with industry information, explanatory illustrations, and sketches.
Our Design Brief Form contains questions about things like the number of bedrooms, desired living spaces, and any special features, such as wellness areas or pools. We encourage you to collect images of home designs you love. At DY32, we'll create our own unique design, but seeing your aspirations will give us valuable insights.
During your own research, you might discover new aspirations, styles, or must-have features or products. This is why we suggest you start researching early in the process.
Engaging with a professional designer early on can help translate your vision into a feasible plan. We can assist with site analysis, budgeting, and navigating local building codes and approvals. Utilising design software or visual aids can also help you visualise the layout and make informed decisions before construction begins.
